It would not be a shield for dentists without it. Our double-hinge with multiple adjustment points makes it simple to get exactly the fit you’re looking for. Low weight is an important feature if you’re wearing a shield most of the day. We made sure our shield remains almost as light as a feather.

Easy-Swap Re-Usable PETG visor

The visor is easy to remove without any tools, which greatly helps with disinfecting. PETG is optically clear and tough material that can be disinfected and re-used many times.

Breathable Forehead Padding

To further increase the already high wear comfort, we added removable forehead padding. It helps with sweat management and it’s nice, soft, and above all, washable. Many competitor’s shields feature closed-cell foam, which becomes unbearably hot with prolonged wear and makes the users sweat. We tested many materials until we arrived at an open-cell foam with protective fabric cover normally used in bras. It’s soft and breathable. We cut the foam with a laser cutter to prevent frayed edges and equip it with pleasant plastic snaps for easy replacement.

Anti-Fogging Treatment & Airy Construction

Many competitor’s shields have huge problems with fogging. Our shield sports both a visor with anti-fogging treatment and an open-top construction that allows the warm air to rise up and out. We make all our shields in the small village of Blue Grass, Virginia. In fact, Blue Grass is not even a village; rather, it’s an unincorporated community.

Twice-Adjustable Hinge

Our unique “slide and rotate adjustable hinge” enables customizing not only the visor’s distance from your face, but also the angle. Not only this helps accommodate a wider range of loups and glasses, it also helps manage light reflections and thus improves visibility.

Exceptional-quality ½’’ elastic band

You have to feel this one. It’s exceptionally soft, flexible and cozy - and made in the USA.

Oversized top cap and sides

We made the shield more protective by extending the sides of the shield and the top about 150% further than is common. What else can we say. More protection is simply better.

About Shield-4-Dentists

About Shield4Dentists Project

This is a project by IMADE3D, a rural Virginia based 3D printing and education company. IMADE3D is the creator of the multiple award-winning open source educational 3D printer JellyBOX.

When the COVID came, we used our 3D design and rapid-manufacturing expertise to make custom PPEs (personal protective equipment) like elbow door openers and protective face shields for local libraries, government buildings, and hospitals.

Shield4Dentists started when we were approached by a local dentist to modify our word-of-mouth popular face shield to accommodate his glasses and loupe.

Fifteen prototypes and four months of testing and feedback later, we feel we have something special and we’re very excited to share it with you.
